THE WARWICK SLADE COLLECTIVE

(The oldest new band in town)

The Warwick Slade Collective is a loose collection of folk musicians who had come together to perform their own individual styles of music. They are not a band but a co-operative whose aim is to perform as many songs as possible in the amount of time allotted to them. This alleviates the age old problem of multiple introduction, tunings and general pandemonium between acts. The current Collective are;

Terry McDonald, Richard Wirdnam & Peter Green

Terry McDonald has been part of the local folk scene since the mid 1960s. He was a founder member of the Bournemouth and Poole Folk Song Club (later the Wessex Traditional) and has sung and played in groups such as the Biddles, Thirsty Work and Diggory Venn. He has a large solo repertoire, the bulk of it being English songs with great melodies.

Terry brings an academic historian's approach to English folk song and he still remembers Warwick's early appearances at the Wessex Traditional Club in Bournemouth despite years of therapy.

Latest Album 'The Secret Diary of a Floor Singer' now out.

Watch out for 'Empty Handed' Coming soon

Richard Wirdnam is a true musician in that he can actually sight read music and is an excellent pianist and accordionist. His accordion styles range from Cajun to Klezmer via English and Irish traditional and he is also a fine and versatile singer. He is quite likely to sing traditional English songs, Bob Dylan numbers and something by Jacques Brel in the same set

Richard came late to the music of Warwick Slade but the doctors say he will make a full recovery. His claim to fame was that at Easter 1976 he played for the Bourne Bumpers!

Peter Green (often mistaken for Warwick Slade) used to run a Folk Club in the Isles of Scilly in late '60s ("where Dick Gaughan introduced me to single malt whisky!") and then in the New Forest in the early '70s. Peter sold his guitar to pay his rent (and more malt whisky) about ''75 and retired. The lucky man then won a guitar in Acoustic Mag competition about 3 years ago and started to play (sic) again. You can hear him each week at Wimborne club where he sings (sic) some of Warwick's great songs.
