THE WIMBORNE FOLK CLUB PRESENTS

The Wimborne Sessions

every thursday

8:30 pm

Wimborne British Legion

Everyone welcome from beginners to legends (like Warwick Slade). Songs, poems and a general good time.

-

The Club history spreads over more than twenty years in various pubs in the area. It has been found in the Crown and Anchor, a couple of times in the Bell Hotel and in the White Hart. They moved out of town to Sturminster Marshall in the Churchill Arms and to The Mount at Corfe Mullen. In September 2005 they moved to The Horns Inn at Burts Hill and settled into their current home, Wimborne Royal British Legion, on 1st June 2006. The common factor in all these moves was that            Bill and His Friends make Everyone Welcome.

Major Artistes include: in no particular order

Bill Kiely, club patron, founder and mentor. Fine unaccompanied ballads and Irish banter. The club’s senior citizen.

Ruth Faulkner, club organiser and spokesperson. Wimborne’s answer to Joan Baez. Sometimes accompanied by her son, Steve. A great fiddle player in his own right.

The Warwick Slade Collective

The oldest new band in town

Terry McDonald,  singer of traditional and contemporary songs with lovely melodies, played on his trusty old Gibson guitars. Motto ‘no song too long’. (hear him on myspace)

>

Richard Wirdnam, keyboard and accordion wizard. Also a singer of renown. Known to his friends as Mr Wirdnam

>

Peter Green, probably the greatest exponent of Warwick Slade songs with his plethora of detuned guitars. His ambition is to learn to play at least one of them.

Allan Winter & John House, a duo that really can play guitars, with a mixture of traditional and contemporary, and sometimes complex, songs.

Jo & Chris Leadbeater, from skiffle to contemporary ballads. Nice blend of guitar and voices.

Peter  Rozenkranz, fearsome & fearless harmonica led singalongs. Eat your heart out Larry Adler.

Norman (Pa) Jones, banjo and uke and a good line in patter. Known to team up with Derek (below)

Derek Phillips, dust bowl ballads and the songs of Woody Guthrie. Ask him nicely and he will yodel for you.

Tony Baughan, one man Les Barker tribute band.

David Humphreys, fiddle playing at its very best, not a bad singer either.

Rod Biggs, not satisfied with running Ringwood he brings his guitars, concertina, shorts and voice to entrance us all at Wimborne. (did you really say that? ed)

Dave Hunt, top guitarist and singer songwriter.

Steve Hamill, contemporary singer/guitarist, not seen often as too busy getting married (etc)

Robert Adams, not seen at the club lately so welcome back. Fine things expected on that guitar.

Angie Gray-Adams, behind every great man there is a great lady. Unaccompanied in song but not in life.Only married a few weeks!

Robin Packham, knee trembling guitar, banjo and mandolin. Songs with a touch of bluegrass and humour.

Kathy, Eileen & John, the Wessex Acoustic trio

Bob Carter  Guitar Player extraordinaire

Unaccompanied  Singers

Peter Orton, probably the best unaccompanied singer around the Purbecks.

Derek Burgess, knows how to make things tick. Will also toot his flute whilst wearing his shorts.

Mervyn Else, a potpourri of diverse and interesting songs (also in shorts) (spot the trend). He has met Warwick Slade!

Ian May, great songs, rare visits

Anna Curtis, (with one S) has been known to give spirited renditions of the odd song, some humorous.

Mo & Paul Edwards, just to confuse things they throw in a harmonica and melodeon (should be below)

Upright keyboard & button things

Paul Grant, always the first port of call for the discerning club host with his trusty melodeon.

Wendy Lacey, great selection of accordion music including Morris and self penned tunes. Motto ‘a hat for all seasons’

Andy Jempson, newcomer on melodeon and mandolin. Welcome

Camper Ken, migratory melodeon player who flies in for the summer,

There are probably more but the memory has gone. Any omissions, inclusions, corrections or general trouble making, please make comments on the Warwick Slade home page.
